Locks: Droitwich Barge Canal

The Droitwich Barge canal joins Droitwich with the River Severn. At Droitwich it meets the Droitwich Junction canal at Barge lock. It has no junctions with any other waterways along its route.

The locks on this canal are all double width locks about 14’ 6” wide.

The canal is six miles long and has eight locks. It was opened in 1771 and its purpose was to transport salt from the Droitwich salt works down to the River Severn.

The last cargo was carried in 1918 and the canal was restored and reopened with the Droitwich Junction canal in 2011.
