Locks: Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal

The Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal is known as the Staffs & Worcs canal, pronounced Stafs and Wusts.

The Staffs & Worcs links the Trent & Mersey to the River Severn with links to the Shropshire Union canal at Autherley junction, the Birmingham Main Line canal at Aldersley junction and the Stourbridge canal at Stourton junction.

It was opened in 1772 and is 46 miles long with 43 locks, all of which are narrow, single boat width locks (approx. 7’ 6”) apart from two broad beam locks at the entrance to the River Severn.
